Cowboys 16, Vikings 10: Here's what I took from the game

Finally the preseasons is over and it's now all about the Cleveland Browns on September 7th!

Ok, let's talk about this win over the Vikings.

Richard Bartel. He won't be on the Dallas Cowboys roster, but he may make the roster of a team looking to keep three quarterbacks. After looking completely lost last season he came out this preseason and looked like he actually belongs in the NFL now. As we all know it's a numbers game and this team has all these week to week injuries which makes it impossible for them to keep three QB's.

Tashard Choice. I never had any doubts he was the #3 RB and I am pleasantly surprised that he's also a very good special teams player. Jerry did a very smart thing by going after this kid in the 4th round.

Sam Hurd. If another Cowboys player never gets a high ankle sprain in my lifetime I would be a very happy man. He says he will be back ASAP. I am guessing he won't be back for a month at the least. No, I have no idea what's going to happen at the #3 WR spot right now.

Bobby Carpenter. Played ok as he always does. Did he make any plays where you jumped out of your seat? No, and he never does but he is solid and will continue to be the backup LB behind Bradie James and Zach Thomas.

Berger vs McQuistan. I think Berger won. I also think McQuistan wasn't dreadful, but he did have one play where he looked like a high school player. Montrae Holland is going to be the starting Left Guard on opening day.

Tearrius George. Nice game which might keep him on the roster for while until Anthony Spencer is ready to play.

Mike Jenkins & Orlando Scandrick. Both had good games and they have proven that they will contribute on special teams this season in a big way.

Alan Ball & Evan Oglesby. Ball had that big hit at the end of the game as the gunner, but he's a pass interference penalty waiting to happen. Oglesby make a nice pass break up and if the Cowboys are keeping six CB's then he should be the guy.

Danny Amendola vs Mike Jefferson. Tough choice and it could go either way right now. Amendola does more, but Jefferson has more physical skills. It's up to Jason Garrett on who he thinks can step in a help the offense.

James Marten. What a wasted third round draft pick! He can't play Tackle and last night he looked like he didn't even belong on the field against 3rd and 4th teamers.

Special Teams coverage units. Not as horrible as they were in the past, but I am still not convinced these guys are even going to be average during the season. This is my biggest issue with the entire team right now.

The Cowboys will wait for the final cuts and go get themselves a veteran WR from that group. Will he be getting a lot of passes thrown his way during the first few games? Not even close.

One last thing to everyone who is panicing about Sam Hurd's injury. Romo still has five valid weapons on offense and their names are Marion Barber, Jason Witten, Felix Jones, Patrick Crayton and the one and only Terrell Owens. Just make sure no one else gets hurt and this offense will be ok for a few weeks until Hurd and Austin are back on the field.

Here's the guys from the Star-Telegram talkng about the game...
