All John Garrett is trying to do is coach up this guy so he can become a professional football player.
If the entire staff and owner and anyone else under the sun has to constantly give the kid good feedback when he does what he's supposed to do then this kid will never make it.
Magic Johnson was trying to talk to the kid, then Jerry was trying to talk to him and still he's looking past them at some BS going on across the field.
In the end the only person who is going to turn Martellus Bennett into an NFL player is Martellus Bennett. Right now for anyone to say they have seen anything that leads you to believe he has what it takes is just being a homer for the Dallas Cowboys.
Cut him? Of course not. Expect him to be a big part of what this team does in 2008? Heck no. He isn't interested in blocking right now.
When Shaun Phillips runs by him like he's standing still I was cringing. That's a guy you want on the field when Tony Romo is out there playing QB? No way in the world would I trust him in that spot. And it's not like he was giving a full effort and just got beat, he just stuck his arms out and then gave up. T me that's worse than the dropped pass because it could mean we lose our star QB to an injury.What has to be done?For starters I bring him into a room with the entire team and the coaching staff. I throw on that clip of him laughing at Coach Garrett and embarrass him. Let him own that moment in time where he thought it was funny to laugh at a grown man who is trying to help you become a professional football player.Then Wade Phillips has to take over from there. He's the head coach so it's up to him to deal with this how he sees fit. If he wants to let some of the veterans get up and speak to the kid then so be it. If he wants to let his coaches, John Garrett in particular, let this kid have a piece of his mind then that's fine as well.The point of doing this? Because the last thing you want to do here is sweep it under the rug as if it never happened or as if it's not a big deal. That will only lead to more problems down the road for Bennett and maybe for the other players who think similiar behavior is acceptable.Blow this thing up now while it's only August. Get it over and done with and then move on and learn from it.That's what I would do.

Bennett is a complete disgrace!!! That was embarrassing to watch last night as a cowboy fan, he showed zero respect for his posiiton coach....He's a player that cant be told anything, he's a know it all..
If I was there when Bennett had his little laugh after John Garrett was trying to get him motivated and ready for practice, he might of gotten a Steve Smith shot in the mouth from me......
If Bennett was a fifth or sixth round draft choice, I'd bet that after Jerry seen that conduct last night on Hard knocks, Bennett would of been shown the door minutes after the broadcast, but since he's a second round pick, we're stuck with him. This guy is looking more and more as the other second round picks lately, not such a great selection. We'll be stuck with him for this year, he wont see much of the field, he'll be inactive most of the year with his atittude.

You guys are getting a little carried away with this bashing. First look at the tashard choice td run Bennett blew his man up. Also he is a kid not all kids mature as fast that doesn't mean he is not working his but off out there. A few clips from Hard knocks and you go nuts please, can you name the other rookie that blew a block in the same drive. Actually watch the game and the hard knocks with an objective eye. On the run by ray lewis brother he manhandled the end on that play as well. Calm down take a step back and breathe....... they guy will pan I out just watch.

Good article and right on the money bro. People are forgetting that he's had these mysterious personal issues, I think this guy has some maturity and mental issues and was probably excused from practice. He's not what I expected at all, horrible attitude. You can tell, I mean, when you're getting coached and you dont even look at the coach, its like he's blowing him off and not taking in the advice.

On the money, show this clip to the whole team and have T.O. Romo & Barber then give him the one over. Notice I left out Witten. I'm sure he's reminded enough that he's no Witten but the Stars need to set him straight and the head coach needs to make it clear that he won't play in the NFL, especially on a Super Bowl contending team with an attitude like that.
It's not his ability, it's not that he dropped the ball, it's his effort on blocking that was the most disgusting. I am 5' 9" and am 100% sure that I would have done a better job than that the other night.

The only thing I disagree with is the belief that Jones should be sorry about Hard Knocks.
I actually think it's a good thing in this case because otherwise the team would not have seen his laugh.
What a horrendous draft choice in the second round.
Bemmet, here's my advice to you: take your 1 point whatever million, spend it as fast as possible and then, go get a job at McDonalds...you loser.
Just think, Jason Witten was drafted in the third round.

Let's not get too crazy here. Bennett is a young player with some maturity issues. Still, he has zero pro experience and he has HBO cameras shoved in his face. Clearly HBO is tryong to make thw kid look bad. Still, I am not going to come down on him for just being himself. I would like to see him improve, but he already showed flashes of being a talented player.
I think people need to remember that he is a young player who will make mistakes like most young players. He will not be a starter, so he should have that time to learn from mistakes.
I am amazed at all these knee jerk reactions, like this piece.

DC Fanatic, you are getting carried away. And if anyone is a cowboy homer, it is you. Either that or an extreme optimist.
This is a tv show. What did you think they would do? Pump everyone up? No, they need a scapegoat character and Martellus is it.
If any of you wanna learn a thing or two about football go back and watch the game. Bennett made plenty of solid blocks. So what if he wiffed on Shaun Phillps. It was his first NFL game and he was going up against one of the better pass rushers in the league.
