Grizz vs Timmy: The practice reports! - Volume 8

Let's get it started! Here's Grizz with his report on practice #8, read here.

Yes, that's Grizz with Roy Williams from earlier today!!!

Sorry about the delay in writing this morning’s practice report but after the practice Shango and I went with Don from dallascowboysfanz.com over to the Cowboys hotel. Don has a Hummer 3 with serious Cowboys decals all over it and Sam Hurd said he would get some players to come over and sign the car. As it turned out Sam never showed but we got Zach Thomas, Kevin Burnett, Roy Williams and Adam Jones to come over and sign the car and take pictures. We also saw Michael Irvin, Nate Newton and James Washington walking around but didn’t get them over to sign.

Now here's Shango and Grizz with Pacman...

Lucky son of a guns!!!

Ok, now to the report.

Back to more 7-on-7 with Romo dumping one to MB3 then Burnett had one hit him in the hands but he couldn’t bring it in for an INT. T.O. couldn’t catch a high pass with Ball in coverage then Austin made a fabulous catch deep over Ball who actually had good coverage. Felix caught a short one and Courtney Brown made the tackle followed by an underneath pattern to LACE>WittenLACE> where LACE>RoyLACE> made the tackle. Brad was next and hit Hurd on a short stop pattern in front of Jenkins then Stanback caught a short one on Scandrick. LACE>AustinLACE> ran a dig pattern but the pass was high and he couldn’t bring it in and Brad closed with a short pass to LACE>JeffersonLACE>. Bartel threw a very low pass to Lowber who made a great catch with AJ in coverage. Amendola caught an out in front of Henry.

>>They moved the 7-on-7 to the redzone and Romo started out with a pass to T.O. but he bobbled it into Watkins hands who couldn’t hold on to it and it fell incomplete. Romo and LACE>WittenLACE> mistimed a hot-read for an incompletion then Stanback almost made a beautiful one-hand catch in the endzone on AJ but he just couldn’t hold onto it. Romo tried to hit Crayton in the back of the endzone but Courtney Brown made a leaping interception. Brad came on threw a short pass to Hurd then threw a bad pass to T.O. for an incompletion.

The more I read about Brad Johnson the more I really think he's not going to make it into the season as the backup QB. Those rumors about Chris Simms are sounding more inviting every day.

Let's get to Timmy's report on Practice #8, read here

11:34 -- You can't just make a Mike Jenkins/Orlando Scandrick comparison. They've both done some good things. I've seen Jenkins get beat more often, but that's because he's getting more reps against the 1s. ... Cowboys skill players not running plays vs. air. Jason Garrett likes what he sees. "Very nice, very nice," he keeps saying.

11:54 -- Several players moved around, as the coaching staff is trying to develop position flexibility. Bobby Carpenter worked both inside LB spots. Adam "Pacman" Jones worked cornerback on both sides. Justin Rogers worked at strong ILB and OLB. Marcus Spears and Jay Ratliff got reps at DE and NT. ... We'll get to highlights from that session later. They're going again, with offense backed down at about its 20. Romo hit T.O. on a deep out the first play and a hook in front of Pacman the third.

12:51 -- Brad Johnson just doesn't look very good. He doesn't make bad decisions, but you're surprised any time he gets the ball downfield to a receiver. He just skipped one in the flat.

12:53 -- Erik Walden got roughed up in pass-rush drills, but he just beat Doug Free on a speed rush for a would-be sack. ... End of practice. Gotta go. Will be back with highlights of earlier 7-on-7 and pass-rush drills, headlined by Courtney Brown's spectacular leaping pick of a Tony Romo pass in the end zone.

Jenkins is getting that extra work because Wade is going to play him a lot once the season begins. Let him get beat now so he can learn and hopefully he's improved by the time the season begins.

Brad Johnson. Ugh. Courtney Brown. Yeah!
