Ellis missing from OTA's, Spencer takes advantage

Greg Ellis didn't show up for the OTA's today and so far no one is exactly saying why, but Anthony Spencer is using his absence to show the coaches what he can do, read here.

Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips downplayed Greg Ellis' absence from today's OTA. They both pointed out that these sessions are voluntary, and thanks to Darren Hambrick, everybody around these parts knows what that means.

Spencer had about as good a practice as possible without pads on. He batted down two Tony Romo passes at the line of scrimmage, skying to swat both, and made a great break on a ball near the sideline to almost pick it off. (Should have been a pick, but let's not nitpick. Spencer jokingly blamed the humidity for making his hands slick.)

Phillips said Spencer would have received the "practice ball," if such an honor existed.

"I know where I'm supposed to be," Spencer said. "I know if I make a mistake, I have time to get back to where I'm supposed to be. I know what I can't do and can do. The more you do something, the easier it becomes for you. I've been doing it for a year now, so I definitely feel a lot more comfortable."

Where are you Greggy? Weird that neither Jerry or Wade are giving an excuse as to why Ellis missed the day's activities. If it was a family emergency or something of that nature I would think they would let us know, but the fact that they aren't saying that makes you wonder if it's just Ellis being a jerk like he is every offseason.

Enough about Ellis.

Let's talk about his replacement, and I am hoping for sooner rather than later on this happening, Anthony Spencer. I really hope he comes in and takes the job from Ellis this summer. He needs to get back in the starting lineup and let Ellis be a role playing pass rusher.

Now some of you think that's a crazy idea, but I still think Ellis can put up big numbers as far as sacks go in that role. He will be fresher and he could add a few more good seasons to his body with less wear and tear right now.

Spencer is the future and the present if you ask me. Let him get in there and mix it up so he learns the game while also providing production.

And of course I want Ellis, Spencer and Ware on the field for every 3rd down this season.
