You have to admit Thomas does bring leadership

Little by little I am beginning to like the signing of Zach Thomas more and more. With each new story or interview with him I seem to be saying to myself, "Yeah, this defense needs a guy like Zach Thomas".

Mickey Spagnola has a good article about how Thomas is low key off the field and how he likes to be a lead by example on it, read here.

Small-town guy with big-time credentials built with modest genes.

"That's just the way I am, that's my personality," said Thomas, making a rare public appearance out at the Cowboys Annual Golf Tournament this past week but only because he was asked to participate. "When I was in Miami, I established my name, but out here I haven't established anything. And you've got to prove that to the guys, you don't just come in with all these great players and try to act like, 'Hey, I'm going to make a difference.'

"You've got to show 'em to get their respect, and that's what I'm coming in to do."

Gotta like it, no matter what you might think Thomas has left or your worries about his continued good health after playing in just five games last year thanks to the concussion he suffered the second game of the year against the Cowboys and the subsequent after-affects following a later rear-ender car accident.

He knows there are doubters out there. He knows his age and last year's injury sprout preconceived notions. He knows getting released by former Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells and scouting director Jeff Ireland once they arrive in Miami diminishes his arrival here in Dallas and opens second-guessing season.

That's OK. None of that diminishes the confidence he has in himself and in his ability to help a 13-3 team from a year ago become better.

"Everything can be said in the paper and things like that, but I show by my actions, and that's more than words to me," said Thomas, the 5-11, 228-pound linebacker who has been a label-buster ever since former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson selected him with the team's third fifth-round pick in 1996 out of Texas Tech. "I never liked it in the past, and being in Miami when someone came in and did a lot of talking, and didn't back it up."

As long as he can stay healthy he should be an upgrade over Akin Ayodele because he's a LB who can run from sideline to sideline. Wade wants him to be the 'free LB' who doesn't have to take on blockers which will allow hi to get to the ball as fast as he can. That was the best part of Thomas' game while in Miami.

I think we will love this guy if he can do some of the things for the Cowboys that he did against them last season..

Just stay on the field Zach and I am sure you will become a fan favorite down in Big D.
