Roy meets with Stewart and Maxie

After Greg Ellis decided to stir the pot I think a meeting between Roy Williams and his defensive coaches, Brian Stewart and Brett Maxie, was a great idea, read here.

Defensive coordinator Brian Stewart and safeties coach Brett Maxie summoned Pro Bowl strong safety Roy Williams to Valley Ranch for a meeting Friday to talk about his commitment to the Cowboys.

Williams said he was happy with the 90-minute meeting and has confidence he will find a comfort zone in the Cowboys' defense.

"The communication was not there last year," Williams said. "We recognized the problem, and we talked about it. And we're going to move forward now. We have a better understanding."

When players start saying the 'communication was not there' that's a bad sign for both sides. That says Roy didn't really know what his role was in the defense and the relationship wasn't good enough between the two sides that Roy could go and tell them this. Not good, but let's hope that's in the past and now maybe Maxie can be the go to guy for Roy this season.

These next comments are not going to go over well with fans though..

Last week, Ellis said he was trying to defend Williams against negative comments from fans who don't believe the strong safety is still a good player. Williams likes to interact with fans and posed for pictures with some Saturday at the event. But life with fans can be tricky.

"I'm tired about worrying about the fans," Williams said. "The fans are only around when things are good. I want supporters. At the end of the day, we're human beings, too. Everything can't be perfect, and you can't let your emotions rule over you being a human being. It gets to a point where you are abusing who you really are as a fan."

Maybe that's what a lot of athletes feel and what they want to say, but it's not going to be taken well by the fans who are already tired of Roy going to Pro Bowls when he doesn't deserve to do so.

I don't think it was a smart move in any way, shape or form . Why would you ever say 'The fans are only around when things are good.'? That's not true at all. We were all there to cheer Roy on in his first few seasons when he was playing lights out football and we just want that player back on the field.

If Roy wants the fans off his back the only way to make that happen is to go out and perform well. He should also know that the fans are aware he is being paid a very nice salary to play average football. Those fans are even more aware that the money he's earning can used on another player who will come in, play better and also care about what the fans think.

Simply put, Roy Williams days in Dallas are numbered if you ask me.
