Tried to stay away til morning, not happening

Ok, I want to say first and foremost the Cowboys are day one winners for sure. In my draft plan, scroll down, I said getting 2 of my top 10 players in the first round would make me very happy. Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins were in that top 10 so I am extremely happy. The second round pick of a TE, Martellus Bennett from Texas A&M, is still a mystery to me.

Let's talk Felix Jones..

Explosive. Whether it's taking a hand off or returning a kick the kid can light up the crowd and take it to the house with the best of them. Remember how we would all sigh when Julius Jones would come onto the field to give MBIII a break? That's not going to happen anymore. When Felix comes in to the game you will be wondering if he's going to get the ball and if he's going to put up six points when he does.

Here's his stat line from last season at Arkansas.

You cannot look at those numbers and not be wowed.

Here's some video on him...

I guarantee you that at some point next season Felix Jones will have you jumping up and down in your living rooms screaming out his name!

Now let me drop some knowledge about this pick.

I wanted Rashard Mendenhall too folks, but it's over now and none of us know for sure what either of them will do in the NFL. So I am already moving forward and looking forward to seeing this kid light it up on offense and on kick returns.

Let's talk Mike Jenkins..

Considered one of the top three CB's by just about every draft board out there. I did not think there was a good chance of him being there at #22, nevermind #25. He plays physical football and he has the athleticism to play man to man coverage in Wade's 34 defense. Anthony Henry had better stay healthy this season because if Jenkins gets a shot at the 3rd CB spot he may never give that job up.

Here's his stat line from last season at South Florida.

His 11 passes broken up and 3 INT's are pretty good considering defenses knew about him and did not throw his way very often.

He's aggressive and has good ball skills. Plus he will light up a WR if he gets the chance to do so.

The knowledge about this pick.

Jerry made a great move in moving up to the 25th spot ahead of the Chargers because they were going to take him at the 27th spot.

Let's talk Martellus Bennett..

Who is he? That's the first thing I said too. I had heard his name before because he came in for a visit to the Cowboys, but I did not look into him at all because I had no idea the Cowboys were going to trade Fasano and then look to draft a TE in the second round.

Here's the scoop on him from NFLDraftScout.com..

Regarded as the "most complete" prospect at his respective position in the 2008 NFL Draft, Bennett combines excellent size, strength and quickness to excel not only as a clutch mid-range receiver, but also as a devastating blocker.

Positives: Has a tall, thick frame with a V-shaped torso, long limbs, large hands, big bubble, wide hips, thick thighs and calves and room to carry more bulk without impacting his overall quickness. Uses his hands with force to escape press coverage and shows excellent boundary awareness. Has adequate speed, but runs with a normal stride (needs to stay in his patterns tighter) and is best when used on the move, whether coming off the line or working in the slot. Not a sudden mover, but has adequate change-of-direction agility for his position. Likes to block and plays with good aggression. Will not hesitate to go vertical and compete for the off-target throws. Works hard to sustain his blocks and plays with consist ent effort. Has the strength to power through the hold up and avoids under-coverage on the route stem. Can swim over or fight through the jam with force. Raw pattern runner who needs more reps, but has good awareness to zone coverage. Finds his marks and gets his head turned around in time to look the ball in, but will round and gather his cuts. Has the hand strength and physical nature to get off the press and settle underneath on short routes, knowing that he presents the quarterback with a big target on the move.

The part about him being a complete TE has me smiling because Fasano was more receiver than he was blocker.

Now the knowledge on this pick.

Can't say I am happy about a TE in round two. It's not the matter of him being a good player or a bad player, it's the idea that we just traded away a 2nd round TE and then immediately drafted another TE in the 2nd round a day later. I think the Cowboys could have went WR, DT or Safety with this pick.
