DCFanatic's 2008 NFL Draft Plan

In my opinion the Dallas Cowboys are already going to be a solid team this season. So when looking at this 2008 NFL draft I am barely looking past the first two rounds in regards to players who will be playing a major role in helping them try to reach Super Bowl XLIII.

On that note, this is what Jerry needs to do in order for me to be happy.

Round One: Get me 2 out of these 10 guys in the first round, no particular order and of course at different positions, with the two first rounders and I am all good in the hood.

Darren McFadden - RB - Arkansas

At this point in time I feel like I am the last one still keeping hope alive that teaming up MBIII and D-Mac is a possibility. But with Jerry Jones you can't ever say never, know what I mean. There is still a notion that he may fall a little and maybe Jerry decides to trade up and make a lot of Cowboys fans very happy.

---------------------------------------------------

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - CB - Tennessee State

Boom or bust is the right way to think about this kid. I will take my chances, but so will all the other NFL teams so it's not looking like he will be on the board when the Cowboys step up at #22. If he is though the Cowboys would be very wise to take him immediately without hesitation.

---------------------------------------------------------

Jonathan Stewart - RB - Oregon

No doubt in my mind he would be an excellent compliment to MBIII, but there is also no doubt in my mind he could be just as affective as MBIII if needed. This kid just does work on the football field and his size and speed are just incredible, especially because that speed is very deceptive. Reminds me of a faster Emmitt Smith.

---------------------------------------------------------

Leodis McKelvin - CB - Troy

Most have rated as the best CB in this draft so of course it's a long shot that he's there for the Cowboys, but it's not impossible folks. McKelvin looks the most game ready and he seems like a good man to man cover guy because his body control. He is also a great punt returner. He actually reminds me of Pacman.

----------------------------------------------------

Rashard Mendenhall - RB - Illinois

Is he just a 'one year wonder' is the only real knock on this big RB. If he's a Cowboy then I sure hope not, but if he goes anywhere else then whatever. His size and speed are excellent and he looks pretty shifty getting in and out of traffic. Could definitely see him carrying the load as the lead back if needed.

---------------------------------------------------

Aqib Talib - CB - Kansas

Great size and instincts for a CB. There are a few clips on him getting burnt, but tell me what CB doesn't get beat every now and again. I think in time with some fine tuning he could be a great #1 CB in the NFL. The off the field issues seem to be well in his past so they are not an issue for me.

---------------------------------------------------

Felix Jones - RB - Arkansas

Do I think he could carry the load if needed? No, but I do think he's a home run hitter who could electrify the Cowboys fans for years to come. Catches the ball well and makes people miss in the open field. He would spell MBIII for a series or two and then may work his way on to the field as the third down back in time. Also a great kick returner who can take it to the house.

-------------------------------------------------

Mike Jenkins - CB - South Florida

For some reason he doesn't get a lot of publicity, but watching him on film you see that he's NFL material for sure. The Cowboys would love him because he fits the man to man mold they want to have their CB's play in Wade's 34 defense. There were a few kinks in the armor because of off the field issues, but I don't they are anything that would make the Cowboys pass on him.

-----------------------------------------------

Chris Johnson - RB - East Carolina

Is he worth a first round pick? No one can know right now and who cares where he was drafted if he turns into a good player for the Cowboys. Will he be there at #61? No, the NFL scouts love speed and this kid has big time speed as we all saw the NFL combine. If the Cowboys like him and he's there then they should take him and worry about the critics later on.

------------------------------------------------------

Kenny Phillips - S - Miami

There is no way the Cowboys can be happy about having to shell out big money to Ken Hamlin. They are paying mega money to the other Safety on the team and he's playing way under par. Drafting Phillips gives them options this year and also next off season. They will have leverage in contract talks with Hamlin and they can dump Roy Williams if he continues his down slide in 2008.

-----------------------------------------------------

Round Two: If Jerry stays at #61, which I doubt, he needs to find a WR or a CB/RB (if none were taken in the first). From listening to the presser the other day I think Jerry may be looking for a big Guard here to come in and push Kyle Kosier for his job. No LB's and no DE's here, but I could see a DT at this spot. I would also expect a Safety to get a look here (if Phillips isn't taken in the first) because they lost Keith Davis as the backup SS.

Here's three guys I would be happy with in Round two whether Jerry trades up/down or just stays at #61..

Andre Caldwell - WR - Florida

--------------------------------------------------

Tom Zbikowski - SS - Notre Dame

--------------------------------------------------

Trevor Laws - DT - Notre Dame

--------------------------------------------------

That's my plan people! Now bring on the 2008 NFL Draft!
