Prediction Time!
First let me say I have no inside info on this topic so I am just throwing this out there.
The NFL is set to release their National schedule for opening weekend and Thanksgiving tomorrow, read here. So I am going to throw out a predition or two for some Cowboys games.
Opening weekend. The Cowboys will open at Texas Stadium vs the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football or on ESPN for Monday Night Football vs the Bengals. Here are my reasons for picking these two possible matchups.
- This is the last go around for Mike Holmgren. He has already stated he will retire after 2008 so Madden and Michaels can blab about that for the entire game.
- Both of these teams were in the playoffs last season and both would expect to be in the mix again in 2008.
- Julius Jones goes back to Dallas.
- Tony Romo's fumbled snap is always good for a few clips during a game vs the Seahawks.
- I think the NFL wants to open the season with the Cowboys at home in a National game because it's the last season for Texas Stadium.
- There is a possibility that Chad Johnson is traded to the Cowboys. How happy would ESPN be the have their Monday Night opener with Chad vs the Bengals all over their six hour pregame show? They might add an extra two hours to the pregame.
- Even if Chad remains with the Bengals then the game between these two teams would be a shootout and everyone loves a shootout in a night game to open up the season.
Thanksgiving Day Game. I am gonna go with the Packers here. Why not? They usually don't have NFC East battles here and the only other 'pretty pick' of the NFC foes on the Cowboys home schedule are the Packers.
Ok, that's my predictions. If I am completely off base then I suck. If I nailed them both or they are flip flopped then I want a cookie from anyone reading this.
