Jerry says he's not going into top five

Seems like years ago that the rumor about the Cowboys looking to trade up into the top five picks to get Darren McFadden began, but Jerry spoke to the Star-Telegram's Randy Galloway and it seems he is dead set against making this move, read here.

"I have no intent at all of moving into the top five," Jones said, while also stressing this was not a comment on McFadden's talent, but a fear factor of paying any rookie today's top-five going rate.

"A team can get crippled, and I mean seriously crippled, from a financial standpoint by being up there in the top five or six. It's a real negative.

"Nobody wants in there, and the teams in there, they want out. This is a very tough draft anyway when it comes to evaluating the talent, and then trying to match up that with the millions it takes to operate at the top of the draft."

But hold on D-Mac fans, there is still a little bit of hope for you yet.

I asked Jones, if McFadden started sliding on draft day, at what point would the Cowboys become interested. Jerry hesitated. Finally, I said, "How about out of the top 10, and he's there at 11?"

"You would be safe with that assumption," he replied.

So Jerry would go after D-Mac if he started dropping down the board and I do believe he has enough firepower with the #22 and #28 picks to move into #10 thru #20 spots.

Do I think there is any way D-Mac falls? No, if he is on the board at #6 the Jets will take him a heartbeat. So if I do the math from all this info it would seem the Cowboys have no shot at drafting Darren McFadden come April.

But this is Jerry Jones we are talking about here folks. Let's not count our chickens before they hatch.
