Cowboys making odd move with MBIII

This is a weird move by Jerry, read here.

Running back Marion Barber

Contrary to earlier reports, the Cowboys will give Barber a first-round tender at $2.017 million, which would net them a first-round pick if he goes to another team, rather than the high tender of $2.56 million, which would have returned a first- and third-round pick.

Why not just give him the extra money if you are working on getting him locked up to a long term deal anyway? I am not sure any team will bite on this, but it may just make some teams think a little harder about actually making the moves on MBIII.

Is Jerry planning something here? Is Clarence Hill Jr. wrong in his assessment on what the Cowboys will offer him? Something just doesn't seem right here that after all this time the tender is now changing from a 1st and 3rd as compensation to now just a 1st.

Please let the football Gods do me right here and make sure this kid is wearing the star next season. Fingers crossed that Jerry knows what he is doing here.
